Employees Can Now File Labour Complaints Online

The Human Resources Ministry has introduced the Working for Workers (WFW) application. This application is a platform for 15.7 million workers, including foreign workers, to lodge complaints related to labour matters.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan assured that the complainants' identity would be confidential. He added that the ministry would address the complaints accepted via the application between three to seven days.

The Human Resources Ministry's top management would monitor the complaints' status, including the minister himself and his deputy Datuk Awang Hashim. M. Saravanan launched the WFW application in conjunction with the 2021 Labour Day.

According to the minister, WFW is a platform to protect the welfare and rights of workers affected by employers' misconduct. The application could indirectly ensure employers and workers comply with Malaysia labour laws. He added that the WFW is proof that the government is committed and transparent in managing labour issues.


The WFW application allows workers to report 14 types of complaints online. 80 Labour offices in Malaysia will manage these complaints.

 

About Working For Workers

Working For Workers (WFW) is a Digital Channel for all workers in Malaysia. Local or foreign workers can voice their concerns online without any fear of retribution or punishment.

The WFW application also serves to channel conflict into a standardised mechanism for a peaceful resolution. It facilitates communication between management, workers, and the government regarding issues that arise. Workers can complain with dignity, knowing that there is a system of appeals that leads to an impartial decision-maker.

Lastly, WFW helps employers to ensure that their employees are complying with company standards on ethical conduct.

WFW can also identify potential disruptive risks early on, saving employers time and money. It can also improve morale and protect against legal troubles.

 

WFW's Features

Using the WFW App

New users who wish to use the app must first register by providing:

  • Name,

  • Mobile phone number,

  • MyKad or Passport number,

  • Gender,

  • Nationality

 

They must also provide company profile info, such as:

  • Company name,

  • Company phone number,

  • Company's place of work, state, district and postcode.

 

The 17 categories of complaints are:

  1. Dismissed without notice

  2. The employer did not comply with the minimum wage

  3. Late payment of wages,

  4. No annual leave,

  5. No employment contract,

  6. No maternity leave/allowance,

  7. No payment of overtime,

  8. No payment of termination benefit,

  9. Unpaid public holiday,

  10. Unpaid rest day,

  11. Unpaid sick leave claim,

  12. Not reporting the employment of foreign worker,

  13. Employer does not comply with the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012,

  14. Employer does not comply with the WorkersMinimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990,

  15. Unlawful deduction from wages,

  16. Unpaid salary/wages,

  17. Employer does not allow work from home.
