The current movement control order (MCO) that was supposed to end on February 18 has been extended for another two weeks. Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today that the new end date for MCO is March 4 for Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and Penang.

The minister added that all other states, excluding Perlis and Sarawak, will be placed under the conditional MCO (CMCO) after February 18.

Sarawak is the only state under CMCO, as of now. It started on February 15 and was planned to end on March 1, when the government placed the rest of the country under restrictions that forbade inter-state and inter-district travel.

Ismail Sabri said that Perlis is the only state that will follow the standard operating procedures under the recovery MCO (RMCO) phase after February 18. He added that the number of Covid-19 cases in Perlis has decreased to manageable levels.

“Even though the total cases and cases from interstate crossing have revealed an overall decrease now with the recent MCO implementation, cases are still high for some states such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang.

“Therefore in our National Security Council meeting today, we decided that we will proceed with MCO in these states,” the defence minister stated in a virtual press conference. The extension of these new national restriction conditions is set to begin on February 19 and conclude on March 4, save for Sarawak.

The 10KM travel limit is also lifted.

The government will also lift the 10KM travel limit imposed for the Movement Control Order (MCO) during the extension to March 4, announced the Senior Minister.

However, inter-district and interstate travel will still not be allowed, meaning that there will only be free travel within the same district.

Additionally, states under the MCO will still have a restriction of two people in a car. In contrast, the other states have no limits on the number of people in a vehicle, based on its capacity.
