The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) recently released digital guidebooks that help Malaysian businesses transition towards digitalisation.

The Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Digital Guidebook and Quick Guide focus on helping businesses map business goals, best practices, digital needs and technologies.

Digital technologies are drastically transforming all sectors. Though it poses a lot of challenges for SMEs, it also creates a wave of new opportunities.

According to Surina Shukri, CEO of MDEC, Malaysia scored high on digital readiness rankings, but local SMEs face trouble with digital adoption. Some of these issues are:

  • Readiness,

  • Lack of awareness,

  • Know-how,

  • Appreciation of the digitalisation's benefits, and

  • Oft-misperceived high cost of adopting new technologies.

Surina said that MDEC developed these essential guidebooks to help SMEs speed up their digital adoption in a structured and easy-to-follow method. This method will enable businesses with the right skills and knowledge, ensuring resiliency and agility against the pandemic's effects, setting them on course towards economic recovery.
