The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has allowed more categories of taxpayers to register for income tax number via e-Daftar. It has also allowed the prefix change of individual taxpayers (from OG and SG) to IG. These changes will take place tomorrow (May 18).

The IRB said the registration of income tax number for taxpayers in these categories could be carried out online through e-Daftar:

  • Association (F),
  • Cooperative Society (CS),
  • Unit of Real Property Trust (TC),
  • Trust Body (TA),
  • Real Estate Investment Trust/Property Trust Fund (TR),
  • and Business Trust (TN),

For the record, IRB said e-Daftar, as of May 17, is only limited to taxpayer categories such as:

  • SG (Individual - Non-business source),
  • OG (Individual),
  • Companies (C),
  • Partnership (D),
  • Employer (E),
  • Limited Liability Partnership (PT).

"Beginning May 18, 2021, the IRB would also implement a new prefix for individual taxpayers from SG and OG to the prefix IG. The process of setting the new prefix would involve two phases, namely, phase one for new individual taxpayers registered through the IRB system.

"Phase two will include changing the prefix of existing individual taxpayers in stages starting May 18, 2021," The IRB said in a statement.

The IRB stated that the prefix-changing would not involve any changes to the taxpayer's existing individual income tax number.

It also said that the deadline for submission of Return Forms for individuals is on April 30 every year for individuals who do not carry out business. For individuals who carry out business, the deadline is June 30 every year.

IRB said the move to allow the additional categories of taxpayers to sign up under e-Daftar was an initiative under Revenue Transformation. It serves as a continuous IRB effort to enhance its services for taxpayers.

The setting and changing the SG and OG prefix to IG for individual taxpayers can facilitate taxpayer management and avoid confusion among individual taxpayers.

You can forward any feedback and queries related to this issue to IRB via the HASiL Care Line at 03-8911 1000 / 603-8911 1100 (overseas), HASiL Live Chat, and the feedback form on IRB's official portal.
