HIRE NOWPrime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Malaysia would resume interstate travel beginning Monday (October 11).
He said this during a special announcement at 3 pm today. Only those who are fully vaccinated can travel interstate.
"With the success of 90% of the population being fully vaccinated, hence I would like to declare that interstate travel will be permitted. This arrangement will begin on Monday (October 11)," he stated.
However, the lifting of the interstate travel ban does not apply for travels to localities placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
He said that the police will continue to carry out random checks to ensure the citizens adhere to the full vaccination rule.
International travel also allowed
Ismail added that the government would also allow international travel starting Monday (October 11). According to him, Malaysians will no longer need to apply for My Travel Pass approval to travel internationally.
The prime minister said that travellers must also undergo the mandatory quarantine requirement upon returning to this country. He said that travellers must take a swab test three days before they return to Malaysia and another swab test after they arrive in Malaysia.
He said that the government had allowed Malaysian travellers to self-quarantine at home. If there is a case of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health will then send them to quarantine centres.
Interstate travel ban
The government briefly lifted the interstate travel ban in 2020. However, it reimplemented it in January this year after an increase in Covid-19 cases.
According to the Ministry of Health data on the CovidNow portal today, a sum of 21,003,074 persons or 89.7% of the adult population in Malaysia have completed their Covid-19 vaccination. The percentage is only 0.3 points shy of the targeted 90%.
On October 8, the Prime Minister said the government would enforce the permission on interstate travel simultaneously countrywide once the adult population's vaccination rate had reached 90%.
He had previously declared that the government would reopen the state borders when the vaccination rate of the adult population reached 90%.
