Want to hire more people? You aren't alone. If you want to fix worker shortage, here are some ways:
1. Take a look at how you're recruiting.
When you tell people about a job opening, do you give the facts, or do you offer a little excitement? If you want to attract talent, then take a look at your job descriptions. It is why many job ads failed to attract top candidates.
The job description is basically a candidate's first impression of your company and how important a job ad is to you. You do not want to discourage candidates from applying your company does not show some personality and character in the job description.
You need to have a good story for what and why you are doing what you are doing and only then will candidates apply to your job ads.

2. Remove the non-essential tasks.

For example, it is hard to find top candidates in sales nowadays. The role of sales has expanded drastically, meaning that one person has a lot of responsibilities.
By hiring an employee to manage internal administrative tasks, the sales employee will have the space to handle the critical duties only.
You might need to hire 2 employees, but remember it's not easy to find a candidate who can do it all without hiring them at a high salary.
Another tip is to hire junior positions to manage less essential tasks as a training program. They will then be ready to move into more skilled work when it's time.
3. When scheduling, think of your employee's wellbeing
If you have an idea of how you want your employees to work, you should at least care for their wellbeing. It'll also help you if you're willing to offer flexible working arrangement.
You don't need to offer a two-hour break every day, but if you're flexible about when and how work is done, you will find that it's easier to attract and keep employees.
The issue with many management styles is that they insist on employees punching clocks and timing their breaks to the minute. These management styles do not allow employees to be productive on their own terms.
For instance, there's an employee who works poorly in the morning and best during late hours. A strict work schedule will ensure that you will only get 20% of this employee's best efforts. If the job allows them to work late, you should at least make it optional. This way, you will really get what you're paying for and not worsen your worker shortage situation.
But what if you need to ask employees to work late hours because you can't find a new employee? Then, you must compensate them in some way, or they will not do their best work.
One of the best ways to attract top candidates is to prioritise your employees.
4. Your work environment should prioritise your employees
To prevent a worker shortage, you have to think of everything that your staff might like and try to offer it, within reason, of course. Here are some examples:
- You can automate some tasks which will free up time for your employees to do more essential work.
- If your employees value training, you can offer to pay for your employee's training course so they can improve themselves and keep their skills sharp.
It might not be possible to raise everyone's salary. Still, you can try to make your organisation an enjoyable place to work, where people feel that they have a future and are not stuck in a dead-end job.
Of course, creating a dynamic, positive and upbeat work environment does not guarantee top candidates. But at least you won't give your current employees a reason to leave. And if you're working your employees into the ground for little reward, your employees won't stick around for much longer.
